DIY Front Bumper: ideas, plans, how-to???

I am a novice fabricator but have access to good tools and friends with skills so I am considering building a homemade front bumper. Problem is, I but have nothing really useful to go on for ideas on how to make it functional (frame attachment points, strength, etc). I thought maybe the forum could use a thread where folks who did this could post pics of their work plus any details about their build they would want to share. I was thinking that designs, problems found during build or install, etc would all be good things to read about here. Also detail shots- like how people integrated D-ring mounting points, how attached to the frame, etc would be most welcome.

I have seen some cool DIY fab projects on here already and am looking forward to seeing what bumper projects folks have done!

I did an easy C-channel (C6x8.2x48") front bumper:

Bolted on w/ grade 8 hardware. The winch plate and tow hooks are Rugged Ridge (remains of the Tube Stubby I had).

^^ like it. Thanks for the dimensions on the C channel. If you left the crash bar on, do you think a bottom angled skid plate could be worked into it? Kinda like the Skid Row Offroad one, or the bottom angle of the RR XHD stubby?

Thank you, and you're very welcome. In case you, or anyone else, doesn't know, C6x8.2 means that the 6-inch C-channel I chose weighs 8.2 lbs per foot. There are lighter (thinner) ones available.
As far as the skid, I can't say for sure, but my feeling is that if you're building it, you can make anything work!

Thanks- I was guessing the 8.2 had something to do with thickness or guage. Appreciated!
