My Jeep has been experiencing intermittent problems with heat or A/C blowing out of the vents. Even on the High setting, sometimes it wouldn't blow at all, OR I would have to slam the glove box shut and it would start to blow. When it would blow, there would be a ticking sound coming from behind the glove box. It started out very faint, only on the low setting, but soon escalated to be a LOUD ticking on every setting. Like everything else, I brushed it off waiting for it to get worse or quit altogether.Well yesterday it happened...It totally quit working - which just happened to be the coldest day of this winter so far. 7 degrees last evening when I was getting home. I ordered a new blower motor from my dealer. The part was $54.15 + tax. So for anyone else out there that is having the same symptoms, below are some pics of how I replaced it. It really wasn't hard to do. It's literally 3 screws and the power plug.
Tools required for the job:[*]Short Straight screwdriver(I used a ratcheting screwdriver - worked great!)[*]Light of some sort - it's dark under there with hardly any room to work and it's too hard to hold a flashlight and a screw driver at the same time[*]Blower Motor (Part # 68004195AA) ***This was for a 2007 JKU Sahara - PN#'s may vary by model***
First thing I did was remove the glove box so it's out of the way.
Next step is to get into contortionist mode and locate the 3 screws that hold the blower motor in.
The blower motor is located above the passenger side footwell. The pic below is from the floor mat looking up into the area behind the glove compartment.
Before I removed the screws I disconnected the power cord. It has a clip to squeeze and pull it out (surprisingly a heck of a lot easier than the door harnesses)
Remove all 3 screws but be careful...These are all that hold it in. These are the outer most screws - NOT the center one closest to the power plug. Once the 3rd screw is removed the blower motor will drop out. It's not real heavy, I just didn't expect it. I figured there'd be some sort of clip
This is what the blower motor looks like
Once everything was put back together I couldn't believe how quiet the heater was working now - the annoying ticking noise was gone and it worked!!
