I really dig the AEV Brute, as we aren't into the intense rock crawling, but more overland-ish type fun, it checks off a number of boxes, just not at sub-100k. I'm down for this!

This will undoubtedly put a big dent in the AEV Brute business. I've been to AEV's facility and the process of making a Brute is very hands on and manual. It's no wonder they cost as much as they do. You have to remove the body off the Jeep, cut off the back, stretch the frame, brake lines, etc. It's a lot of work. The price does not surprise me.

But when you can put these on an assembly line and all the parts are already made and you aren't taking it apart first, my expectation is these will probably start in the 35k range for a bare bones sport and go up into the low 50s. Just a guess.

Yeah, I remember watching a video with AEV discussing their double cab, their take was to put something to market that FCA could take and make their own. If I recall, they say they don't make much off the brute, but it is fun to do. I'll have to look for the video, quite an insight to their thought process. A bit of a "push" so to speak. I agree their cost is inline with the amount of work, but still pricey, but cool, all at the same time. Though, looks like FCA did just that, the JT looks a lot like the brute, especially at first glance in proportions.

Another point they bring up is the stronger axles...we'll see

IIRC, the back end of the Brute if fiberglass, not steel.

The bed of the Brute is not fiberglass. It is a composite material. A whole lot stronger than steel as well as lighter.
They have stopped taking orders on the Brutes as well. Meaning they are stopping production of the turn key Brute Double Cab.
They are switching to producing more Prospector and Prospector XL Turn Key trucks.
So, some time in the very near future the very last Brute Double Cab will be turned out at AEV's shop...
I would have loved to get one... but not for the $120k price tag...

I want that scrambler in the worst way. I need a pickup for work (I only drive it occasionally) and the idea of having the work pickup with doors and a roof that comes off... It's sublime. The bed will be too small and I don't need 4 doors, but maybe by 2021 if there's enough interest they will start pumping out some other options.

Dreams may be crushed for me. The "expensive" part is the killer.

How hard can it be to design a wrangler truck that can pull, and hull a fair amount and not price it out of market, or practicality?

This is disappointing. Though, if they are looking at a limited run, they are probably seeing how the Ford Raptor (F150) is doing and marketing to a niche there. I was really considering a diesel version in a couple of years, guess we'll have to see what they come out with on price. To be honest, a new Rubicon well equipped is $50k+, so a truck with a high end trim package around that number isn't so far off unless is starts to creep in the $60k plus range. Then meh.

I can see why they think this will be better than a Colorado/Ranger/Tacoma/Frontier because it will have features these trucks do not. So they are not going to price this to compete with them. They may have looked at AEV and thought, there are people out there that are willing to go buy a jk at $30k-$50k and then pay an additional tens of thousands of dollars to turn it into a truck. Why can't we bump our prices between the mid-size truck and what it costs a person to build an AEV truck? Limited production will mean resale value will be high and you won't see one at every soccer field. Granted this will be a small market but just look at what an LJ Rubicon goes for today?
