    Genright "No Flares" install (rear)

If you read Genright's thread about these you know it's been a struggle for me to finally have my hands on them. But now I do! I'll be doing this write up in stages, as it's finally gotten cold here and I don't want to spend a ton of time in the garage after work.

I'll start by saying the fit and finish are very nice. From what I can tell, getting the rivnut holes to line up will be the major challenge. Also, the flares do not sit flush against the recess in the body. There are spacers included (pictured below) which allow them to fit flush with the outer portion of the fender well.

If you are replacing your stock fenders then removal of the OEM flares is pretty straightforward. A few bolts and then ripping them off. If you are installing the fronts you will also need to cut the flare support brace off. I'm not doing either, since I'm replacing my rear Smittybilt XRC flares. I just removed a couple of bolts and some self tapping screws.

    Here is the supplied hardware...

There are some extras and they do send you the basic rivnut tool (I hesitate to call it a tool, because its a bolt with some nuts on it).

I am just beginning to prep. The flare are shipped as bare aluminum, so some priming and painting was in order. I used some Rustolem Custom Shop Matte Black...

Went on nice and smooth and they now hang in the garage to dry...

I hope to get the holes for the rivnuts drilled tomorrow and maybe have them mounted. If not, I'll have it done Friday evening, as I get off early that day. Stay tuned...

    Genright "No Flares" install (rear)

    Okily dokily...

First off, there needs to be much work on the instructions and hardware. The instructions I received were for Genright's tube flares, so the parts list and the tools list were both useless. I was sent twenty 1/4-20 rivnuts and 20 1/4-20 allen head bolts. A crude bolt style rivnut tool (with an incorrect hold down bolt) was included. Also in the kit were fourteen 1" spacers. So at this point I knew I was just gonna have to feel my way through, as I don't like having to call tech support knowing that I was sent the wrong instructions (and later finding out not enough hardware).

    So to begin...

There are ten holes on each flare. You will only be drilling four new holes. The others are factory holes that you will need to ream out. Five of the mounting holes are exposed on the back, so I chose not to use rivnuts and instead use nylock nuts and washers.

Here's is one of the front holes that had to be drilled. Used smaller bits until I reached the correct size for the rivnut...

Two more holes up front that need to be drilled. They are smaller since I used nuts on them...

Two factory holes up top that worked fine as is (used nuts on them)...

Four factory holes at the rear that needed rivnuts (all were reamed out)...

As I was installing I realized that the number of spacers sent wasn't going to be enough. But I went ahead and got everything installed...

If you notice in the second picture there are no spacers on the bottom two. The very bottom needs at least a 1/4" one and the second a 1/2" (in my estimation). I'll be making a trip to Home Depot tomorrow to grab a few and use trial and error to find the correct ones.

    The finished product...

You'll notice in this pic how the rear of the flare is bent, due to the lack of spacers. Should be an easy fix...

I do love the look of these. I'm sure Genright will get the correct instructions and parts list taken care of, along with the correct hardware. These are very simple to install, wrong instructions and hardware aside. And the look is exactly what I hoped for!
