What weight engine oil for an auto jku with 151000km on the clock
Everyone has their own favorite oil but I've been running 5w-30 Pennzoil platinum with 1qt of Lucas stabilizer in my 3.8 for 120k miles now without any issues.
The 5w-20 recommendation from the factory is to maximize fuel economy (in a prefect world, under ideal conditions- neither of which exist).
Are you burning any oil? Any reason you're looking to change? What condition is the motor in?

This will be an interesting thread to see discussions on. Oil always brings forth the opinions.
My Eva, now at just over 95k miles, uses about 1-1.5 quarts every 3k miles. I run the cheapest synthetic 5w-30 I can find, usually Walmart's SuperTech, which runs about $18-ish for a 5 quart jug. I've run everything from that to Mobil1, which is $29-ish for a 5 quart jug. Eva uses around the same amount on every one, and there is no observable fuel efficiency improvements to be seen with any of them, so I just keep using the cheap stuff.
I have never tried an oil stabilize like Karl suggests. Maybe that would help.
My experience - I have a 2010 with just under 40k miles on it and it was "consuming" about a quart every couple thousand miles when I was using standard 5w-20 and I had a lot of "noise" when I started the motor. I've since switched to MobilOne gold cap 5w-30 synthetic and I no longer consume any oil or have that horrible start up clatter. I'm sure there are other brands that are comparable, but this is what I tried first and it worked out great for me, so no need to experiment any further on my end. Good luck!

Good info. On my wife's 2013 with the 3.6 I just use whatever 5w-20 is on sale at Orielleys and a WIX filter. I just bought a 2009 Rubicon of course with the 3.8 and getting ready to do the first oil change after putting 1200 miles on it and no noticeable oil consumption. The oil in it still looks new. I have no idea what the previous owner was using so I'm looking for suggestions like this thread. My Rubicon has 69,000 miles on it.

I use Quaker State 5w-20 conventional. I buy it whenever it is on sale at menards. I pay $30 for 12 quarts. Seems to work just fine.
I used to run synthetic but I burned waaay too much oil. Switched to conventional and the burning is at a minimum now.

1. Clean
2. Cheap
Have 110k on my 3.8, burns a little, I typically go with what's on sale in a 5/20 and change it more frequently than what the manual calls for. Usually every 4-5k miles. Started doing that at about 75k miles. I know some people like to get into urinating contests when it comes to certain things. (Myself included) though I feel cleanliness is the most important aspect to engine longevity.
