    10A Hood question

I recently purchased a 10th anniversary and notice it runs quite hot in low airflow conditions. As many are aware the hood vents are functional but are really limited by the small hole in the forward section; perhaps it's sole function is drainage. Would there be any benefit to just cutting plastic underside to allow for better airflow?

I've searched many forums/google and have not seen where anyone has cut these to enhance airflow. Perhaps too new for people to hack them up yet.....

    Thoughts?

I say cut it or drill more holes, just make sure to put some paint on that exposed metal from cutting,

You could try removing the liner first and see if that helps which requires you only need to pop out the christmas trees holding it on and not chopping anything apart.

We need to define what "running hot" is here. Is your temperature gauge physically higher than 'normal'? Your thermostat will keep the temperature over a certain mark, so the expectation to run at maybe 1/4 on the temperature gauge isn't going to happen.

If you're simply referring to the massive amount of heat under the hood and potential heat soak and transfer to the cab then you're on the right track with opening up the hood to allow some of the hot air to escape.

Yes I am referring to the massive amount under the hood. It was so hot the other day I could not even pop it open with out gloves on... This was after 3 hours of city driving in 100 degree temps..

Since the vents are plastic popping some holes in will be easy..

I have also thought about removing the insulator blanket but will try the holes first...

I will let y'all know if it improves...

That's the answer I was hoping for, no offense intended. Pulling the hood insulation could remove some heat but you'll need to get some serious vents happening in the hood to cool down the hood and temp under the hood.

How about putting a radiator or condenser fan on the underside of the hood to draw out the hot air through the vents. Put it on a temperature switch so it will cut on and off at a preset temp

    10A Hood question

I thought about a fan but it would be a tight squeeze.....

This is what I have done so far....

I don't want to remove to much and lose integrity of the part....

It should help to some extent, how much I don't know...

Here you can see the three holes from the top side... Notice how much larger these are then the factory cutout.
