2018 Jeep Wrangler Power Soft Top

It appears that the current soft top is going to be getting a redesign and update with powered version that should make going topless even easier. Traditionally, the Wrangler’s soft top has been low-tech and manually adjustable, but the upcoming JL Wrangler seems to be ditching that for convenience.

One does wonder how much weight this may add to the new Wrangler, as well as how easy it will be to completely take the top off. There has been no word yet if this new soft top will be fully removable, however, it would be hard to imagine it wouldn’t.

    2018 Jeep Wrangler Glass Hardtop

What is easily the most surprising ‘top’ announcement is the idea of an optional glass hardtop roof for the next-gen Wrangler. Although it sounds like it won’t be completely panoramic due to supporting substructure for chassis rigidity, the fact that a Wrangler could come equipped with a glass roof really teases the imagination.

Imagine it now: riding down your favorite trail, crawling over rocks in your new ’18 JL Wrangler, taking a short moment to stare up and around at the world, all from inside your climate-controlled Jeep. While this definitely won’t be a Jeep Hardtop for every enthusiast, it stands to reason that this will be a popular option amongst true enthusiasts and casual drivers alike.

2018 Jeep Wrangler “True” 3-Piece Hardtop

While the current Wrangler offers an optional 3-piece hardtop currently that can be removed in portions (the area over the front seats), it’s hard to say what the specs on this new “true” 3-piece hardtop will be. Given the ‘true’ call out, it has some enthusiasts wondering if you will be able to configure the roof in three different layouts.

While it is important to think critically and question any information you get from an “anonymous source”, all three of these roof options seem entirely plausible and possible. Paired with the fact that this same source has been 100% accurate on other aspects of the new Wrangler, such as the new 4-cylinder turbo engine dubbed the “hurricane“, I think it stands to reason that the new 2018 Wrangler will be getting some updated top options for the new generation.

I saw this the other day and am still a little skeptical. I just can't see them not offering some kind of "manual" soft top.

I just saw three people jogging outside my window and it inspired me... to get up and close the blinds.

Ditto. And if the power soft top is anything like the ones we have have seen before, I don't like it, and I wouldn't want it. The convenience of a power convertible-roof sounds nice, if they can't make it so it collapses as much as the current soft top, meaning, you can actually see out the back, then, meh.

However, this now opens the market for BestTop to sell more soft tops.

To me it almost looks photo shopped after thinking about this for a day. The driver and passenger door windows to me would not go all the way into their doors, I believe this is true right now for the rear doors on the jku. Seems kinda strange that they would leave some glass sticking up above the door for the driver's door; passenger door I can understand but something appears to be off.

Also I was watching a program last night I believe it was extreme offroad where they built a jeep at the eastern expo in Kentucky. The Artec flares they used on the build remind me of the ones in the picture above, while not exact a little photoshop goes a long way.

After having said this I am all for something better, but if they cannot do it without having a soft top option I will go trade mine in now and buy the exact one I would want to have for the rest of my life

The windows on my '11 rear doors go all the way down, all I've seen are the same I believe.

So at a wedding tonight and see a friend of mine from college that works as a production line supervisor at the factory in Toledo. We have seen the stories about the overlap in production between the JL and the JK (aka Classic Jeep) but he says the word inside is that they do not have plans to kill the JK production anytime soon. They know they have a loyal off-road crowd and production will be ramped up to 400k and will comprise of 250k JLs, 50k of the trucks and 100k of the JKs. He said that could change but that is the word inside the walls today.
