I did the same. I cut a spot out of the foam crap for it to sit in.

So, I was intrigued and went ahead and did this. I took one of my garage door openers, since I have both of them.(The wife has the home link in her car), I took it apart and used my multi-meter to figure out which two studs of the switch opened the door. Once I figured that out, I tapped onto those studs by soldering in two small pieces of wire, which I attached to a small Push button switch. Then I found a place to mount it and drilled a 1/2" hole, installed the switch and miraculously it all worked.

    Good idea!

I went a different route and wired in a Harley transmitter I removed from my bike under the hood. I tied it to the flash-to-pass circuit. Extra level of security because the key has to be on as well.

So when using the multi-meter you just looked for a live connection? or did it activate the door when both were touched? I have no experience with this kinda work but love the idea.

Well I had it set to test for continuity, so I would connect the circuit and act like a switch. It should activate the door when you find the sweet spot.

I liked these ideas and think they look very nice but I found a nice little pocket in the rollbar padding right behind the driver's head. My three button remote fit in their perfectly and I just have to reach up and hit the button. Took me about 30 seconds to place it there and it has worked flawlessly since I installed it.

I picked up one of these off of eBay. Works great and you can install the button just about anywhere. I placed mine just below the ignition as shown in one of the eBay pictures. Took less than 5 minutes.
