My 2011 with 3.73's 6 speed manual with 32 BFG A/T's at 42,000 miles with the A/C off down the highway at 70 0nly gets 16 mpg and this is hand calculated. Computer calculated is 15.5 MPG,

It all depends on where/how you drive. My rig with a 4 inch lift, 36 in tires, misc. armor, bumpers, 4 door is capable of 20+ mpg with the 6 sp and 4.88s... This was hand calculated, 22.3 is my best on a 73 mile journey down a 2 lane country road, but it involved coasting down ever hill I came to (in neutral), never passing 55 mph, drafting behind everything I found that was bigger than me and doing everything I could not to stop at a stoplight.

This however is not the norm.. On avg, I am in the 17.5 mpg range if I am careful

On a side note, last summer coming down Wolf Creek Pass the computer was showing that we were getting 37.9 MPG, of course I do not believe I touched the skinny pedal the entrire descent.

Your "power band" is the same regardless of gearing. Proper gearing just allows you to stay in that power band and make better use of that power.

Speed is what kills mpg. I got over 20 on my 08 on 36" Iroks doing 50-55 but that dropped exponentially as the speed increased.

Just playing around on a downhill section I was able to get my computer to show >90 mpg. Was kinda funny.

    I can agree there.
My JK/3.6L/4.88/Auto/5" lift/Armor gets 13-ish on the interstate at 68 mph.
It gets 16-17 doing the 20 miles each way commute to work/home doing 35-45MPH on flat roads along the river.

I always have inverted fuel economy where the city is higher than the open interstate. The 35-45 range is just about at idle, barely feeding any throttle at all. The vehicles just glide down the rivers edge burning only fumes.

My '09 two-door X averaged really well when it was stock -- it wasn't unheard of for me to have a tank exceed 20 on the highway. Now, lightly modded with just a leveling kit and 33s, I'm in the mid-to-high 15 range, occasionally low 16s. It *is* time for some new plugs, though, so that might drop it a tenth or two as well.
