Anyone using this one? seems like a good handheld, lots of features, has the ability to add a vehicle mounted antenna. Want something I can easily switch between vehicles and isn't a permanent mount.

what made you choose the cobra over the midland?

I am running the Midland. We only use it on the trail so all that's in the jeep 99% of the time is 18feet of coax running to the firestik mount out back. You can't go wrong ever way, just don't expect great range out of whatever you get.

Cobra has that box that hard wires into the power (where I have it mounted its easily removable). The handset plugs into it so I can pull it out when I go out so you just see a plug. The midland plugs into cigarette lighter and I have too much plugged in there. With the cobra and 4ft firestik II mounted onto my tire carrier, it's swr'ed out to 1.5. I can hear everything.

I run Galaxy radios in my Jeep and pickup. If I was going to do a solution where I transfer a radio between vehicles, I'd would do a "permanent" antenna system on each vehicle. That's the most important part of the equation.

Cobra 29 LX with cooltech ultra mount antenna kit. I use the Valco overhead mount kit - http://www.valco-cp.com/cb_bracket.htm , I like the color change display along with the NOAA weather alerts and the PA output. The unit has lots of cool features.

I have the midland-75 and I have no complaints. I've had it for about 3yrs and I get really good reception. For the price it's well worth it.

I'm running the Uniden 510 (do I really need the PA option of the 520). Mounted it to the plastic. It is supprisingly secure with zero movement.

Just installed a cobra 29 lx on the dash over the stereo. ran 18ft coax to a 4 ft firestik mounted to the tire carrier. Was new to cb's so tuning was a three day process. Learned a lot though and love the set up. The 29 is loaded with features. NOAA Weather radio is a plus. It also has an alarm clock ( a feature that will prove useful after the wife has me sleeping in the jk!) :beaten: I will post pics later. Had to run a grounding strap from tailgate hinge bolt to the tub to eliminate an antenna warning.

Right now I'm running the Cobra 75, but I asked Santy Claus for a Midland 1001LWX. I like the Cobra, but I have the handset hanging on a CoolTech VersaMount 2. The weight of the unit makes it wobble enough that I don't like it. It already broke the plastic button mount on the back, and I replaced it with a Firestik universal aluminum button.

I'll sell the Cobra if Santa hooks me up.

I'm also running 18 feet of truckstop coax a quick disconnect unit and a 3' Firestik II day to day, and a 4' Firestik II on a spring for wheeling. I can't fit in the garage with the 4 footer on. Barely fit with the 3

Cobra 29lx mounted over the stereo, 18ft cable to a 4ft firestick on the tramp stamp. Didn't spend any time tuning, and I have great range and reception. CB has built in system checks that you can make sure everything's good, plus the alarm clock functions as previously mentioned.

About a 10 yo 29 LTD, peaked, Wilson noise cancelling mic, 4ft firefly whip. Mounted on the passenger side of the trans tunnel on a quick release.
Since I no longer run a CB in my big truck, this made it here, LOL.

I'm running an inexpensive Uniden with a Strike Force Zebra bracket mounting it above the mirror. Easy cheap install that didn't require drilling into anything and since it's not an expensive CB, if it's stolen no worries...

I have the Strike Force Zebra mount and a Cobra 40. I don't plan on leaving it in except for wheeling trips. I'm using the Teraflex spare tire antenna mount and a 4' Firestick. Question 1: Do I really need that much antenna? Question 2: What is the best route to get the cable inside the jeep without making new holes?

You don't really Need that much antenna, but I like getting up over my roofline. That way you get more coverage forward.
I routed the cable through the same grommet as the wire for the third brake light, then under the housing for the Sub, and under the side moulding to under the passenger seat(my radio sits just in front of the passenger seat).

My first one, the speaker blew 3 times. Got fed up and bought a new one. Speaker has blown twice. Finally bought an external speaker and just use that.
